The Community Place of Greater Rochester provides our burgeoning senior population with both group and individual programs and services designed to help the young-at-heart get more from their golden years. Programs and services include:
The Senior Center(s) are located at 145 Parsells Avenue and Cedarwood Towers Apartments. Seniors, 60 years and older, participate in daily activities that support socialization and independent living. Specific activities include: exercise programs; games; dietician’s advisement; computer training; music, arts and crafts; and field trips. Hot, nutritious meals and transportation are also provided.
For additional information, contact Katie Jesserer, center coordinator, at 585.288.0021 or kjesserer@communityplace.org.
A case manager is available to serve those frail elderly seniors who may be homebound or those that have limited mobility. The case manager works closely with seniors to address individual concerns and engage other community resources that would assist in maintaining the senior in his/her home. One key function is to actively identify seniors in need of assistance and help them overcome barriers to care.

The Foster Grandparent Program offers elders ages 60 and up who meet income eligibility requirements the opportunity to assist children enrolled in educational programs at 36 area schools or childcare centers to succeed. Students and teachers both benefit from the work of Foster Grandparents as they work one-on-one and in small groups with children providing academic, social and emotional support, helping children to succeed.
The Foster Grandparents work 15-20 hours each week. Grandparent volunteers receive a small tax-free paycheck and a meal each workday. Assistance with transportation is provided if needed. Support services are provided to the Foster Grandparents to assure their personal wellness is maintained. Additionally, on-going in-services are required to provide up-to-date training in working with children.
