Sustainable Economic Development

In order to build the economic infrastructure of the community and create a sustainable neighborhood economy, HOST addresses a wide range of economic issues.

A small business incubator program helps entrepreneurs from the neighborhood start businesses that meet the needs of community residents, generate job training opportunities, and contribute to the community's economy and quality of life. The program recognizes the need for economic growth activities to be paired with a sustainable economic and social infrastructure and strong support systems.

Improving the Economic Health of Individuals and Families

HOST provides financial literacy training and encourages the development of assets. We provide free tax preparation for families that make less than $30,000 per year, helping families ensure they get the most from their tax return. Families are also encouraged to save money and open bank accounts, and are offered free educational programs regarding credit and fee-free savings accounts. HOST also connects families to resources for affordable health insurance, child care subsidies, and home buyer programs, and partners with local banks to work with tenants interested in eventual home ownership.

A Dynamic Program to Meet Changing Needs

HOST is also currently determining the viability of other economic growth engines such as food cooperatives and public/private partnerships. By supporting economic growth in neighborhoods we can keep money in the neighborhoods longer and help improve the overall quality of life in the community.
