Strong Families in Strong Communities

We envision strong families living in thriving, interdependent communities created by neighbors and partners working together. The Housing Opportunities for Sustainability and Transition (HOST) program aims to do just that by helping families and communities achieve a high quality of life that is both sustainable and fulfilling.

HOST was created in 2002 to address a set of interrelated issues impacting The Community Place's service area, including: substandard, unaffordable housing; high rates of poverty (35% and higher for neighborhoods we serve); high rates of transience; large numbers of vacant, blighted houses contributing to drug activity and loitering; families in economic crisis; and a lack of supportive neighborhood relationships.

The Goals of HOST

The goals of HOST are concentrated in three areas:

1. The creation of quality, affordable housing that is combined with youth and family support services to increase family stability.

2. Development of viable economic opportunities and sustainable neighborhood economies.

3. Resident-driven community building and development of neighborhood leaders.

Please follow the links at left to see how the HOST program ensures that neighborhood residents are aware of, and have equal access to, resources and opportunities that allow them to fully participate in all society has to offer.
