CPGR Youth Hold Event to Honor Young Victims of Violence

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (February 21, 2006) – On Friday, February 24 th, 2006, youth from The Community Place of Greater Rochester, Inc.’s (CPGR) youth development and after school programs will present “Fashion Peace,” a talent and fashion show tribute to the young people in Rochester who fell victim to violence last year. The event will take place from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at CPGR’s 500 Carter Street location.

The event, which in the past has drawn over 200 attendees, was reformatted this year by the youth that participate in CPGR’s after school programs in order to honor their peers who were victimized by violence in 2005. Proceeds from the event will go towards the Devon Stott Counselor-In-Training Fund ( Devon was a victim of violence in 2005) and youth programming at CPGR.

The event will feature a talent portion with performers ranging in age from five to 21 as well as a fashion portion, complete with a runway and video displays, with young people modeling outfits that they have designed or arranged. Last year the event was at CPGR’s Parsells Avenue site but had to move because of high attendance numbers. The cost of admission is $3.00 per person (children under six admitted free). Refreshments will be available for purchase as well.
