The Community Place Hosts the Clothesline Project
During Sexual Assault Prevention Month

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 21, 2006) – On Friday, April 28, The Community Place of Greater Rochester (CPGR) will be hosting a “Clothesline Project” event, part of a nationwide program that addresses the issue of violence against women. The project is a visual display, in the form of t-shirts, that provides a moving reminder of violence committed against women. Each t-shirt is decorated by a survivor of violence against women or a friend or loved one of a victim. Different colors represent different types of violence against women, such as physical abuse, rape or sexual assault, attacks based on sexual orientation, and murder or homicide.

The event will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at CPGR’s 145 Parsells Avenue, Rochester site. It will feature guest speaker Paula Sheinberg, a coordinator from Alternatives for Battered Women, at 5:00 p.m. CPGR will be providing a small, private space set up for attendees who wish to decorate their own t-shirts. The public is welcome, and refreshments will be available.

The event is sponsored by the Social Work Department at SUNY Brockport, the Women’s Center at SUNY Brockport, and The Community Place of Greater Rochester. It will be coordinated by Jennifer Wantuck and Tammie Pollotta, two senior social work students at SUNY Brockport, with the help of volunteers from CPGR, SUNY Brockport, and the Rochester community.

The Community Place of Greater Rochester, Inc. is a nonprofit human services agency that provides a variety of programs and services to individuals, families, children, the aging, and the developmentally disabled living in the greater Rochester area.
