ROCHESTER, N.Y. (May 14, 2009) –
The Franklin Educational Campus, School Based Health Center has been awarded a $7,000 grant to promote community awareness of school-based health centers in the Rochester Community. The program’s goal is to “promote the health of children, adolescents, and their families.” The center, which is operated by Threshold Center for Alternative Youth Services, Inc, was granted this award through the W.K. Kellogg Foundation via the New York State Coalition for School-Based Health Centers.
The Health Center at Franklin will use this grant to develop a youth-led public awareness campaign to educate the community on the importance of school-based health centers and their role in keeping students healthy. Shari Hogan, nurse practitioner and site director, will lead the effort at Franklin.
In addition to the Threshold Center, The New York State Coalition for School-Based Health Centers has partnered with six other school-based health care providers throughout New York State to implement strategies to sustain school-based health centers, including grassroots advocacy, community organizing, data collection, and raising public awareness of school-based health centers and their need.
