The Community Place’s Centennial Annual Meeting to Celebrate Rich History of Serving Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (June 14, 2007)- Tonight The Community Place of Greater Rochester will be holding its Centennial Annual Meeting and Reverse Raffle Dinner. The event will be held at The Lodge at Woodcliff in Fairport. A reception and silent auction preview will begin at 5:30 p.m., dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., and the annual meeting, award presentation, and reverse raffle will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m.

More than 160 people will be in attendance to celebrate The Community Place’s 100 years of service to the Rochester community, including a wide range of community leaders as well as former board members and executive directors from The Community Place and its predecessors, Lewis Street Center, Genesee Settlement House, and Eastside Community Center. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Community Place’s Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs, two programs that serve hundreds of seniors and children throughout the greater Rochester area.

Special awards will be presented to former executive directors and retiring board members. Jack Quinn, a former Lewis Street Center executive director, will be honored for his dedication and service to the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs.

One of The Community Place’s predecessors, the Association for Practical Housekeeping, was formed in 1907. The APH, which later changed its name to Lewis Street Center, helped Rochester’s immigrant population assimilate into American society. Today The Community Place serves all members of the Rochester community – from individuals and families to young children and teens to the aging and individuals with developmental disabilities – especially those who are marginalized or underrepresented.

The Community Place of Greater Rochester, Inc. is a nonprofit provider of neighborhood-based human services that offers a variety of programs and services to individuals, families, children, the aging, and the developmentally disabled living in the greater Rochester area. CPGR was formed in 2001 after the merger of the former Lewis Street Center, Genesee Settlement House, and Eastside Community Center. Visit us on the web at www.communityplace.org.
