Youth Worker for the Developmentally Disabled

Reports to: Disability Services Team Leader
Classification: Part –Time. Potential hours - 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. OR 3:-00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., M-F

Required Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision of the Disability Services Team Leader, The Youth Worker for the Developmental Disabled is responsible to work as a team member to provide positive social enhancement to inner city youth coming from various ethnic backgrounds with a developmental disability.

Qualifications:

• Preferred – AA in social science, human service or a focus on child/youth development. Six months of experience working in a structured youth program.

• Acceptable – High School diploma or equivalency with 2 years experience working in a structured program with special needs youth. Must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License with your own transportation, able to relate and interact with drivers and youth coming from different social, economic and ethnic backgrounds. A criminal background check will be conducted as a condition of employment.

Example of Required Responsibilities:

• Keep abreast of all state and agency regulations/operations procedures
• Responsible for conduct, safety and supervision of youth participating in activities
• Prepare necessary equipment and/or supplies prior to scheduled activities and replace such equipment in designated areas
• Maintain order and operating procedures in the gym, teen lounge, corridors before during and after all program hours
• Maintain accurate data and tracking records on all assigned youth (i.e. incident reports, registration forms etc.)
• Participate in traveling programs on an as needed basis
• Required to participate in all Summer Camp duties as assigned by Camp Team Leader
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled by Team Leader
• Participate in program development and implementation
