Youth and Family Support Specialist

Required Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Manager of YFSS, the Youth and Family Support Specialist is responsible for completing assessments and developing and monitoring implementation of plans for youth program participants in accordance with the division’s strategic plan.

Skills Necessary to Perform Job :

  • BA/BS in the field of Social Science, such as but not limited to Social Work, Social Psychology with the equivalent of 6 months of part time experience in youth and/ or family case management. OR
  • AA/AS in the field of Social Science, and no less than 1 year of successful work experience in direct service with the youth and their families.
  • Must be a licensed driver with own transportation, able to relate and interact with diverse youth coming from different social, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Able to lift 35 pounds and engage in recreational activities.
  • A Criminal Background Check is required as a condition of employment.

Example of Required Responsibilities:

  • Develop service plans (e.g. IOP) with youth program participants based on the results of assessments and interviews with youth and families.
  • Ensure that service plans are implemented and recorded in case notes and files. Work as a team with other youth division staff to facilitate the accomplishment of the plan.
  • Coordinate and broker services and resources for clients.
  • Work with area schools to assist youth experiencing behavior and academic problems.
  • Provide immediate response counseling to youth program participants experiencing crisis in school and community.
  • Conducts informational, educational and group sessions with youth as directed.
  • Maintains caseload statistics and monthly reports as required by program.
  • Conducts home visits to ensure that client’s needs are met and to work with youth and parents to create plans and to advance their accomplishment.
  • Assists in periodic case reviews.
  • Assists in program and summer camp planning and other duties as may be necessary to ensure program effectiveness.
