Threshold’s Learning Center at The Community Place

The Community Place works to improve the educational impact of our neighborhoods at all levels. Threshold’s Learning Center (TLC) is a preparation site, for out of school youth between the ages of 17 and 25, designed to assist students in getting their High School Equivalency Diploma .

Individuals who are 17-25 years of age are eligible to enroll in classes to prepare for the High School Equivalency test which includes Vocational training. Additional enrichment classes include, but are not limited to, health education, life skills, and economic literacy. Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE) are administered routinely. Classes are performance-based and individualized. Official Readiness tests help determines when students will take their exam.

Classes are in two sessions; mornings (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) and afternoons (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm) and based upon space and availability.

Enrollment is year-round and mini-orientations are held routinely, however applications are always accepted.

In order to enroll you must complete an application which can be found here (Application) or at 145 Parsells Ave. You must have a New York State Identification Card (Driver’s licenses, non-driver’s ID, and learner’s permit. The temporary ID is good only for enrollment). You will need to attend a 2-day Orientation which includes TABE testing. If you are a returning student you will need to present an ID and retest.
