Youth Services

Youth Services focus on the holistic development of toddlers, children, and young adults in areas of education, workforce, personal, social and emotional development. The wide range of age-appropriate services and programs promotes preparedness for the next phases of life. To ready our youth for the competitive world, we help set a firm foundation for future success in college, career, and life.

Programs and services include:

EARLY CHILDHOOD

Our Early Childhood services give young children the advantages they need to succeed in school. We provide them and their day care providers with the tools and resources necessary for positive growth and development.

Programs and services include:

  • Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK), at 500 Carter Street, provides free all day academic, social-emotional and preparation for kindergarten for children aged 4 (by December 1st) – 5. Our structured and safe program settings allows for children to actively participate in learning, fun, and developmental activities. Nutritious meals and snacks are provided and bus passes, if necessary.
  • The Family Daycare Program recruits, trains, and reimburses home family daycare providers for nutritious meals and snacks. Home daycare providers receive great benefits from multiple training opportunities and technical support for providers offering daycare services in their homes.

YOUTH DEPARTMENT

The wide range of programs and services we offer allow young people in grades kindergarten through 8th grade and students attending Northeast/Northwest College Prep at Douglass Campus to be prepared for high school and set a firm foundation for future success in college, work and life by age 21. We work with a host of organizations and area schools to help our community’s young people realize their goals and aspirations.

THRESHOLD'S LEARNING CENTER (TLC)

Threshold Learning Center (TLC), works with young adults working towards their high school equivalency diploma. Our TLC program accepts students aged 17 to 25, who are no longer enrolled in a traditional school setting. Classroom offerings are flexible and placement assessments are offered on-site. TLC also offers supplemental services from job readiness training, search, and placement, paid internships, financial literacy, and leadership opportunities.

Threshold Learning Center offers great benefits for youth aged, 17 – 25*, seeking structured educational and workforce development opportunities. Eligible out of school youth may receive Individual Technical grant opportunities, an incentive, support services, and transportation allowance for working towards their goals with support from an engaged Navigator.
